TikTok has announced plans to bring out a few rule changes and features that will only be offered to adults.
TikTok said in a news release that these measures put in place to protect its users and artists and to improve their well-being are constantly being improved.
As a result, users will no longer be allowed to broadcast live streams on the website until they are 16 years old, starting on November 23, 2022.
The short video platform continued by stating that this decision was reached after taking the magnitude of its global audience into account.
Furthermore, the strategy is consistent with other products that have an age limit for access, such as direct messaging, which requires users to be 16 or older to use, and features that require users to be 18 or older to give virtual gifts or use monetization.
The new adult audience option for live streaming will be available in “the coming weeks,” according to the China-based company, and will allow creators to limit their audience to anyone over the age of 18.
According to TikTok, the live broadcast may include a comedy act that is more appropriate for viewers over the age of 18, or artists may feel more at ease discussing a traumatic event if the dialogue is restricted to adults only.
