Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor has made history by being named the first South Asian ambassador for Dior, marking a significant cultural connection between India and the renowned luxury brand.
According to WWD, Sonam will represent collections designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s creative director of womenswear.
Dior released a statement praising Sonam as a “multitalented personality” who embodies the “audacity, grace, and elegance” of the Dior aesthetic qualities that reflect a continually reinvented femininity. This partnership underscores the deep cultural ties between Dior and India that have existed since the brand’s inception.
As the daughter of Bollywood icon Anil Kapoor and former model Sunita Kapoor, Sonam made her film debut in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya (2007). She gained popularity with lead roles in romantic comedies like I Hate Luv Stories (2010) and the hit Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015).
Her performance in the biographical thriller Neerja (2016) earned her critical acclaim. Currently married to businessman Anand Ahuja, Sonam is preparing to return to the screen next year after a career break to welcome her first child.
Expressing her excitement about the partnership, Sonam said, “It’s an honour to be a part of Dior’s story as they continue to push the boundaries and redefine creativity and elegance in fashion.”
She emphasized that each collection showcases unique visions and intricate craftsmanship that resonate with her own style.
Having previously represented brands like L’Oréal Paris and Zoya Jewels, Sonam’s presence at the Dior ready-to-wear show during Paris Fashion Week generated a media impact value of $2.7 million, highlighting the significant influence she brings to the luxury brand.
