Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Duchess Meghan Markle, the Royal Couple, are expecting their second child. The first-born is the son, Archie.
A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan said in a statement,
“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”
This child will be eighth in line to the British throne.
The Royal couple made the announcement with a picture in which the couple sit near a tree with Harry’s hand placed under Meghan’s head as she lies on his lap with her hand resting on her bump. It’s a poignant moment as the couple look at each other with big smiles with Meghan wearing a flowing, floor-length dress.
It has been reported that the Duchess is wearing a custom Carolina Herrera dress, made for the duchess while she was pregnant with her first child, Archie.
A mutual friend of the Duke and the Duchess, Misan Harriman, also the photographer who took the photo, tweeted,
“Meg, I was there at your wedding to witness this love story begin, and my friend, I am honored to capture it grow. Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on this joyous news!”
According to the Harper’s Bazaar, Palace released a statement saying
“Her Majesty, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales, and entire family (are) ‘delighted’ and wish them well.”
In early 2020, Meghan and Harry announced they were stepping down from their royal duties and moving to North America, owing to much intrusive British media. They bought a house in Santa Barbara, California recently.
It had been revealed by Meghan that she had a miscarriage in July 2020, which was traumatic for her.
The first son of the couple, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, seventh in line to throne and the Queen’s eighth great-grandchild, was born on 6 May 2019.
They hope their next chapter, spent in North America , will make their own path to the future.
