Priyanka Chopra Jonas is well known throughout the world for her work on prominent Bollywood and Hollywood projects. The actress was named Miss World 2000. She and her husband Nick Jonas welcomed their daughter Malti earlier this year. But now, one of her rivals has made a claim that the pageant was rigged in her favour.
Former Miss Barbados Leilani McConney claimed that the Miss World pageant in 2000, which saw Priyanka Chopra (now Chopra Jonas) crowned, was fixed in a video she recently posted to her YouTube channel. Leilani, Miss Barbados 2000, participated in the competition. She discussed the bias she noticed in it more than 20 years ago and drew comparisons to the current Miss USA pageant, which has been accused of similar wrongdoing, in her nearly 14-minute-long video.
“I literally went through the same thing at Miss World. I was Miss Barbados, and the year I went, Miss India won. Mind you, Miss India had won the previous year (Yukta Mookhey), and the sponsor was also ZeeTV, and Indian cable station. Our sashes had ZeeTV on top and then the names of our countries. This is very familiar to me,” she said in the video.
