People frequently doubt their relationship from time to time, whether it’s a little case of The Ick or full-blown cold feet before the big day. Therefore, it makes sense that even Prince William had some concerns when he first started dating Kate Middleton, who would later become his wife. Yes, every relationship has its ups and downs, even when you are second in line to the throne.
“William had been having second thoughts and sat down with his father and his grandmother to have a frank discussion about his future with Kate,” Nicholl claims, “Both advised him not to hurry into anything.”
Although Kate and William were married in 2011 in a royal wedding seen by millions around the world, the couple experienced some serious health issues before becoming a married couple.
Katie Nicholl, a royal analyst, claims that Prince William not only “confessed” his relationship problems to the Queen but also to his father Prince Charles, who reportedly urged the future King to “not hurry into anything” with Kate.
The 24-year-old apparently cancelled arrangements he’d made with Kate to spend the holidays together after consulting his family, which didn’t go over too well. According to Nicholl’s book, the Duke of Cambridge was scheduled to spend Christmas at Sandringham with the Royal family before going to Kate’s house for New Year’s. But when he called her on Boxing Day to cancel the plans, she was reportedly “left in tears.”
Kate and Prince William, despite Charles’ concerns, couldn’t stay away for long and became engaged soon after their brief but shocking separation in 2007.
Prince William and Kate have both commented on their previous divorce, with Kate acknowledging that she “wasn’t particularly happy but it made her stronger.”
Also publicly said by Prince William was that “we were both extremely young… we were both finding ourselves and becoming different individuals. It was just a little place, but it worked out better because we were trying very hard to make our own way and grow up.
Roughly three months later, the two were a couple again, and in 2008 Kate represented William at a family wedding when William’s cousin Peter Phillips (son of Princess Anne) married Autumn Kelly. (William was at a friend’s wedding in Africa at the time.)
