The Daily Beast saw some newly unsealed court documents in which Depp wanted to show that his ex-wife worked as an escort. He also wanted to show naked photos of her.
According to pre-trial court documents, Johnny Depp wanted to show explicit pictures of his ex-wife, Amber Heard, during the high-profile defamation case.
In a motion, Amber Heard’s lawyers said, “It is unreasonable for Mr. Depp to want to show evidence of the following irrelevant personal matters.” The lawyer gave the examples of “naked pictures of Amber Heard” and “Amber’s short time as an exotic dancer before she met Mr. Depp” as proof.
The lawyers also said that the Pirates of the Caribbean actor was “frivolously and maliciously trying to suggest or imply that Ms. Amber Heard was once an escort.” But the judge didn’t let them show the inappropriate pictures of the actor because Heard’s lawyers said they were “personal matters that don’t matter.”
The strategy of Depp’s top-notch legal team became clear a few days after the Aquaman star appealed the court’s decision to side with her ex-husband in the six-week libel trial.
The court said that Amber Heard hurt Depp’s reputation when she wrote an opinion piece for The Washington Post in 2018 in which she called herself a victim of domestic abuse.
Damages were given to Depp for $10.35 million, while Amber Heard won one of her three countersuits and was given $2 million in damages. After Amber Heard’s appeal, Depp’s lawyers sent a notice that they would also appeal the verdict, which said that Depp had to pay his ex-wife $2 million in damages.
