What’s Love Got to Do With It?, produced by Jemima Khan, has been awarded the Best Comedy award at the Rome Film Festival, after its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The writer and co-producer of the movie, Khan, revealed the exciting news on Sunday while posting pictures on the red carpet to Instagram. Khan wrote, “We won Best Comedy at The Rome Film Festival for our film, What’s Love Got to Do With It? Ol Parker, I appreciate you showing me how to create a script.
She also expressed gratitude to the cast, including Mim Shaikh, Iman Boujelouah, Sindhu Vee, Emma Thompson, Lily James, Asim Chaudhry, Shahzad Latif, Jeff Mirza, Sajal Aly, Ben Ashenden, and Ben Ashenden of the pin comedy for the many laughs.
A thank-you was then given to the cast and crew, starting with executive producer Lucas Webb, producer Nicky Kentish Barnes, executive producers Ron Halpern and Joe Naftalin, Studio Canal, and Eric Fellner of Working Title films.
Shekhar Kapur, the film’s director, and the logistics company Lucky Red were also thanked by Khan. She thanked Bella Freud for her power suit, an ivory matching pant suit with a sleeveless vest, which she wore to the film festival. And Emma Hawkins for always being my plus one and for capturing these pictures said, Khan.
What’s Love Got to Do With It? is a cross-cultural British romantic comedy that centres on filmmaker Zoe (James) and contrasts her search for love (which includes using dating apps and going on terrible dates) with that of Kazim, a close friend of Zoe’s (Latif), who chooses to get married to Maymouna in an arranged marriage (Aly).
