Popular actor Faysal Quraishi is under scrutiny following the premiere of HUM TV’s latest drama Raaja Rani, with viewers criticizing his performance as exaggerated and unconvincing.
The drama, directed by Amin Iqbal and produced by BJ Productions in collaboration with Momina Duraid, features a talented ensemble cast including Hina Afridi, Arez Ahmed, Javed Sheikh, and Salma Zafar Asim. Written by Sana Zafar, the story revolves around a man struggling with mental health challenges and emotional immaturity.
While the concept and supporting cast have been generally well received, Quraishi’s portrayal of the lead character has sparked disappointment among fans. Many viewers feel the performance lacks subtlety, with some calling it overacted and ill-suited for the veteran actor.
“He’s a brilliant actor, but this role just doesn’t fit him,” one fan commented online. “Imran Ashraf nailed Bhola’s character with authenticity and innocence—this feels forced.”
Criticism has also been directed at the casting choice, with audiences pointing out a visible age mismatch between Quraishi and the youthful, childlike persona he’s expected to embody.
“Why is a man with mature features playing a character meant to seem mentally immature or childlike?” one viewer questioned. Another remarked, “I thought it was a romantic scene between husband and wife—then he called her ‘aunty.’ It was jarring.”
Some viewers suggested that casting two different actors for the younger and older versions of the character might have made the role more believable.
In addition to the performance concerns, the actor’s makeup has also been a point of criticism. Audiences noted that the heavy foundation aged Quraishi further, making it even harder to connect with the character’s intended innocence.
Despite the drama’s attempt to explore important themes like mental health and emotional development, fans appear to agree that casting missteps can overshadow even a well-written narrative.
