Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have officially reached a divorce settlement, bringing closure to one of the most drawn-out and contentious celebrity splits after eight years.
The couple submitted a default declaration to the Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, confirming they have agreed on the terms related to their marital and property rights, as first reported by People magazine.
Jolie’s attorney, James Simon, issued a statement saying, “Over eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children moved out of the properties they had shared with him, and since then, her focus has been on finding peace and healing for their family. This is just one step in a long process that began years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but relieved that this part is finally over.”
The filed agreement includes a waiver of any future spousal support claims, though further details were not disclosed. The settlement is still subject to approval by a judge. There was no immediate response from Pitt’s attorney to a request for comment.
A private judge appointed by the couple initially ruled to grant them equal custody of their six children. However, after a conflict of interest led Jolie to seek his removal from the case, an appeals court agreed, resulting in the judge’s removal and forcing the couple to restart the custody proceedings.
While the divorce was finalized in 2019, the division of assets and child custody remained unresolved until now. Four of their six children are now adults, so no custody agreement was needed for them. The remaining minors, twins Knox and Vivienne, are 16 years old. In June, their daughter, Shiloh, successfully petitioned to remove Pitt’s name from hers.
Their other children are 23-year-old Maddox, 21-year-old Pax, and 19-year-old Zahara. The use of a private judge has kept much of the process confidential, with no official court actions in nearly a year before the settlement.
