Tech billionaire Elon Musk has contributed $276 million to organisations supporting Republican candidates ahead of the November 3 midterm elections in the United States, according to US media reports.
The donations, made since July 2026, have positioned Musk as the largest known individual donor in this election cycle. His total political spending during the 2025–26 cycle has reached approximately $366 million, according to reports published on Monday.
The largest recipient was the Senate Leadership Fund, a Republican-aligned political action committee that received $158 million to support the party’s efforts to retain control of the Senate. Musk also contributed $76 million to America PAC, his own political action committee, which supports Republican candidates and voter mobilisation efforts.
Other recipients included the Congressional Leadership Fund, which received $20 million, while the Republican Governors Association and Lone Star Liberty PAC each received $10 million. The Republican Attorneys General Association received another $2 million.
Musk previously spent approximately $290 million supporting Donald Trump and other Republicans during the 2024 election cycle. He later joined the Trump administration, overseeing the Department of Government Efficiency before leaving the role following a public disagreement with the president.
However, the two have since reconciled, and Trump presented Musk with the National Medal of Science last week.
US campaign finance rules restrict direct individual contributions to candidates but allow substantially larger donations to certain political action committees.
Musk’s latest spending highlights the growing financial influence of wealthy donors in American elections as Republicans seek to maintain their congressional majorities.
