Egypt has denied any connection to a ship targeted off Yemen earlier this week. Cairo also condemned attacks on Red Sea shipping.
The Transport Ministry rejected reports linking the vessel to Egypt or its ports. Officials said the reports circulating online were false.
The ministry said the ship flew the Tanzanian flag and belonged to a Yemeni national. A Dubai-based company operated the vessel.
Egypt Rejects Claims Over Targeted Ship
Egyptian officials said the vessel was not registered with Egyptian shipping chambers. They also confirmed that it lacked authorization for maritime agency services in Egypt.
The ministry said the ship had never entered an Egyptian port. It also said the vessel was not travelling toward Egypt.
Furthermore, officials confirmed that the ship carried no Egyptian cargo. The statement followed reports about the company’s address in Alexandria.
Those reports had suggested a connection between the vessel and Egypt. However, Egyptian authorities firmly rejected those claims.
Cairo Condemns Red Sea Attacks
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry separately condemned attacks against ships in the Red Sea. It cited an attack on a Yemeni commercial vessel on Tuesday.
The Tanzanian-flagged ship came under missile attack south of Yemen’s Mokha port. The incident occurred near the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Egypt also mentioned a Saudi oil tanker targeted on July 25. Cairo described such attacks as a serious threat to maritime safety.
The ministry stressed the Red Sea’s importance to international maritime trade. It called for greater protection of navigation through the strategic waterway.
