Election Results
ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected election petitions filed by three Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed candidates against the results of three National Assembly seats in Karachi.
The ECP directed the petitioners to challenge the results of constituencies NA-237, NA-239, and NA-241 in Karachi through the election tribunal.
The winning candidates from the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) in these constituencies were Asad Alam Niazi, Nabil Gabol, and Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, respectively.
The election commission rejected the petitions filed by PTI-backed independent candidates Zahoor Ud Din for NA-237, Mohammad Yasir for NA-239 (Lyari), and Khurram Sher Zaman for NA-241.
In NA-237, Asad Alam Niazi of PPP secured 40,836 votes, with PTI’s Zahoor Ud Din as the runner-up. In NA-239 (Lyari), Nabil Gabol of PPP won with 40,077 votes, holding a lead of 2,843 votes against the PTI-backed independent candidate Mohammad Yasir, who secured 37,234 votes.
For NA-241, PPP’s Mirza Ikhtiar Baig emerged victorious with 52,456 votes, securing a lead of 3,846 votes against Khurram Sher Zaman, the PTI-backed independent candidate who obtained 48,610 votes.
The ECP’s decision to reject the petitions upholds the victory of the PPP candidates in these constituencies.
The PTI-backed candidates, dissatisfied with the results, are directed to pursue their grievances through the election tribunal, continuing the legal process for resolution of electoral disputes.
