The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has officially announced the successful candidates for 36 National Assembly seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Notable victors include Sibghatullah from NA-4 Upper Dir, Gohar Ali Khan from NA-10 Buner, and Umar Ayub from NA-18 Haripur. Asad Qaiser and Shandana Gulzar have been confirmed as winners for NA-19 Swabi and NA-30 Peshawar, respectively. Shehryar Afridi secured victory from NA-35 Kohat, while Sher Afzal Marwat emerged victorious from NA-41 Lakky Marwat.
The notification also highlighted the success of one candidate each from the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and MWM in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
It’s noteworthy that independent candidates have a three-day window to decide and join any political party of their choice.
With the conclusion of polling stations and vote counting, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with a population of 48.5 million, played a significant role in the electoral landscape. The province boasted 21,928,119 registered voters, with 11,944,397 males and 9,983,722 females.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly featured 115 general seats, complemented by 26 reserved for women and 4 for non-Muslims. The province contributed 45 seats to the National Assembly, including 10 reserved for women.
A network of 15,696 polling stations was established across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with 4,810 designated for male voters, 4,287 for female voters, and 6,600 for both genders. Over 181,000 polling staff members were appointed and trained for a transparent and efficient electoral process. Result dissemination channels included Form 45, EMS online, and offline platforms.
The electoral arena was filled with anticipation as 713 candidates vied for National Assembly seats and 1,814 contested for Provincial Assembly seats. A staggering 454.4 million ballot papers were printed to accommodate the democratic fervor. In the 2018 general elections, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf secured victory in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the second consecutive term, winning 37 general seats and 8 reserved seats for women. Mahmood Khan became Chief Minister, succeeding Pervez Khattak, both of whom lost their seats in the 2024 elections.
