ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is going to announce much-awaited verdict in the PTI’s prohibited funding case tomorrow (Tuesday/Aug2) morning.
The Commission has issued a cause-list on Monday evening wherein it has mentioned that the PTI’s prohibited funding case decision will be announced at 10am on Tuesday.
The ECP has requested the Federal Govt to arrange foolproof security tomorrow before the announcement of the verdict
The ECP’s announcement comes just a few days after the commission’s top officials meeting with PDM leaders, led by former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
Meanwhile, last week Financial Times has also published a story claiming that the PTI received funding from Wootton Cricket Club of Abraaj founder Arif Naqvi. The amount was generated through a charity match and an Arab dignitary.

The FT report proved a much-needed support for the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), and its leaders who are already demanding immediate announcement of the verdict, which was reserved on June 21.
In Nov 2014, a senior PTI leader Akbar S. Babar filed the case with the ECP regarding foreign funding of the party. The Commission, however, is going to announce its verdict in this case after a delay of more than seven years.
According to ECP, PTI would face embarrassment if it files a reference against Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja as some secret matters which were hidden from public, would be revealed during the hearings.
They said that the ECP is a constitutional body and will continue to follow the constitutional path.
In June 2022, the ECP has reserved the decision in the PTI’s prohibited funding case and did not announce it despite a growing pressure from the government and the PDM parties.
