Chicken meat prices in Lahore and across Punjab have surged significantly following a brief period of decline, reflecting new economic pressures in the region.
As of July 20, the price of chicken meat in Lahore reached Rs595 per kilogram, marking an increase of Rs18 from the previous day’s rate of Rs577 per kg.
This uptick comes after a recent downturn attributed to reduced demand during Eidul Adha, when many households preferred sacrificial animals such as goats, cows, and camels over poultry products. However, post-Eid festivities have seen a rapid reversal in prices.
Local authorities have confirmed these price adjustments, indicating that chicken meat now stands at Rs595 per kg, while eggs are priced at Rs258 per dozen in Lahore and its surrounding areas.
Residents have voiced frustration over these escalating costs, particularly in light of concurrent rises in utility bills and the prices of other essential goods. Many are urging government intervention to curb alleged price manipulation by market forces.
The broader impact of these increases extends beyond poultry alone, affecting commodities like cooking oil, ghee, and lentils, which have also become more expensive following recent hikes in petrol prices nationwide.
The situation underscores growing economic challenges faced by consumers in Punjab, prompting calls for proactive measures to stabilize prices and ensure affordability for essential food items.
As fluctuations continue, stakeholders are keenly monitoring developments to mitigate the impact on households and businesses alike.
