ISLAMABAD: Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that the incumbent government has paid more than $12.27 billion foreign debt in 2021-22.
Through his Twitter message which he shared today, he said that Pakistan has paid $12.27 billion alone in the current fiscal year of 2021-22.
Information Minister also said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government will have to pay around $55 billion foreign debt payments in its five years term as compared to $27 billion paid by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in its five-year-term.
Last week, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) had shared that the liquid foreign reserves in Pakistan have declined by US$90 million during the week ended on December 10.
The total liquid foreign reserves held by the country stood at US$ 25,027.8 million on 10 December. Huge debt burden was one of the major issues which Pakistan has been facing for years.
The PTI government is also seeking resumption of IMF loan programme to obtain more loans that will strengthen the foreign exchange reserves and enable the government to borrow more money from the World Bank and ADB and also retire payable debt in its remaining term.
