PBS Launches Data Fest 2024 to Enhance Statistical Literacy in Pakistan

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics has announced the inaugural Data Fest 2024, an innovative three-day event scheduled to take place at the Pak-China Friendship Centre in Islamabad from October 18 to 20, 2024.

This pioneering festival aims to enhance statistical literacy and raise awareness about the vital role of data in decision-making processes.

Open to a wide audience—including government officials, policymakers, students, researchers, and the general public—Data Fest 2024 seeks to demystify data science and showcase its practical applications.

Despite the abundance of available data, limited awareness and technical expertise among users often hinder its effective utilization. To address these challenges, PBS is launching initiatives like Data Fest 2024 to promote data literacy and encourage data-driven decision-making, making the National Statistical System more accessible and inclusive.

Objectives of Data Fest 2024:

  • Promote Data Literacy: Enhance participants’ understanding and skills in data science.
  • Engage Data Producers and Users: Facilitate interactions to bridge the gap between those who create data and those who use it.
  • Showcase Data Integration Benefits: Highlight how combining data can provide comprehensive insights for informed decisions.
  • Create a Data Exchange Marketplace: Establish an environment for effective data sharing and accessibility.
  • Encourage Data-Driven Innovation: Foster new ideas through panel discussions featuring industry thought leaders.
  • Build Skills in Data Visualization: Provide training on data analysis and visualization techniques.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Increased Data Utilization: Raise awareness of available datasets, leading to improved decision-making.
  • Enhanced Collaboration: Strengthen partnerships between government, private sector, academia, and civil society.
  • Innovation Drive: Introduce new practices in data analytics and visualization.
  • Capacity Building: Improve participants’ skills in data literacy and analytics.
