Pakistan sets new record of 24,467 MWs power generation: Hammad

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Energy Division said the electricity generation and supply in Pakistan exceeded 24,000 MWs for the first time. In a tweet issued today, Minister said the total power generation on Aug 11, 2021, was 24,467 MWs.

He pointed out that in 2018, the maximum generated was 20,811 MWs which further increased to 23,370 record level in summer season in 2020. On Aug 11, 2021, the PTI government excelled its previous record high generation of electricity and produced 24,467 MWs.

“It reflects not only higher demand and generation but also increased transmission capacity. In contrast, highest generation and transmission achieved before the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government was in July 2018 at 20,811MW,” the minister tweeted.

He said the new record had been set despite the fact that Pakistan’s biggest dam, Tarbela, was working at about 25% of its capacity this year during peak season.
