federal govt established diyat value for upcoming fiscal year

The federal government has officially set the Diyat value for the financial year 2024-2025 at Rs8,103,955, which corresponds to 30,630 grams of silver. This decision was announced through a notification from the Finance Division, in accordance with sub-section (2) of Section 323 of the Pakistan Penal Code (Act XLV of 1860).

The notification has been forwarded to the Secretary of the Law and Justice Division in Islamabad, who has been tasked with ensuring that it reaches all courts and bar associations throughout the country. This step aims to maintain consistency and awareness regarding the updated Diyat value among legal professionals and the judiciary.

For context, the Diyat value for the previous fiscal year, 2022-2023, was set at Rs4,318,524, also valued at 30,630 grams of silver. This significant increase in the Diyat value reflects the government’s ongoing adjustments to align with economic changes and inflationary trends.

Diyat, which refers to the compensation paid to the heirs of a victim in cases of intentional homicide, holds considerable importance in Islamic law and Pakistani legal practice.

The government’s regular updates on this value are crucial for ensuring fair compensation in legal proceedings, particularly in cases involving wrongful death or injury.

This announcement underscores the government’s commitment to uphold legal standards and ensure that compensation frameworks remain relevant to current economic conditions.

Legal practitioners and the public are encouraged to stay informed about these updates, as they play a vital role in the justice system and the rights of individuals affected by such cases.
