ISLAMABAD: Tourist travel to the northern areas through Islamabad and Lahore is causing a sudden surge in airline fares in Pakistan.
Travel agencies are attributing the increase to the rising demand from tourists returning to Karachi, leading to a significant hike in one-way fares for flights from Islamabad-Karachi and Lahore-Karachi, with prices reaching up to Rs68,000 for most airlines, including the national flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines.
Budget airline FlyJinnah is also selling its Islamabad-Karachi ticket at Rs64,945.
According to a Karachi-based travel agent, the fares have been raised by around Rs17,000. Setting a minimum of Rs35,000 for one-way flights from Karachi to Islamabad and Karachi to Lahore. Due to the increased demand from tourists.
However, he anticipates that the fares may ease after the first week of August. When there is expected to be a slowdown in tourist visits.
The surge in private airline fares, including the national airline, is causing difficulties for passengers.
