In a significant move to support farmers, the Punjab government has lifted all restrictions on the movement of wheat, allowing for its free transportation both within the province and across inter-provincial borders.
Under the new policy, no special permits will be required to transport wheat, enabling farmers to access broader markets and secure better prices for their crops.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a deregulation and free market policy for wheat procurement—marking a historic shift in Punjab’s agricultural landscape. For the first time, private sector entities will also be allowed to participate in wheat buying, ending the long-standing monopoly of government procurement agencies.
The initiative is expected to boost competition, ensure fair pricing, and enhance overall efficiency in the grain market, ultimately empowering farmers across the province.
