Dubai has launched a new biometric immigration system that can process passengers in just 12 seconds at Dubai International Airport. The “Click and Travel” service uses facial recognition, electronic passport reading and automated checks to speed up immigration procedures.
The system completed a pilot phase from May to August, processing 31,373 passengers before its official launch on September 7.
Faster Processing at Dubai Airport
Under the new system, travellers can verify their identities through facial recognition and automated passport checks.
As a result, passengers can complete immigration procedures without relying on conventional counters for every step.
Moreover, the technology combines biometric identification with automated checks to confirm travellers’ identities before completing immigration clearance.
Dubai authorities introduced the service across different terminals at Dubai International Airport.
The system is available to UAE citizens, residents, Gulf nationals and international visitors, according to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs.
Technology Aims to Ease Airport Congestion
Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, director general of GDRFA Dubai, announced the system during a press briefing at Dubai International Airport.
According to authorities, the technology aims to reduce processing times and ease congestion at one of the world’s busiest airports.
Furthermore, automated identity checks could improve passenger movement during periods of heavy travel.
The launch represents Dubai’s broader push to expand smart technology across border control services.
Authorities expect biometric immigration systems to make airport procedures faster while maintaining identity verification and security requirements.
