There has been a rapid escalation in security concerns in Abu Dhabi as a drone hit near the hotel where the Pakistan Shaheens team was staying. All the players moved to the basement to assure their safety. The Pakistan team was there to play against England Lions for a scheduled series. Luckily, no player was injured, but it raised fear and anxiety among team members regarding their safety. Team management acted swiftly and followed safety protocols to protect everyone inside the hotel. Meanwhile, authorities continued to assess the situation in the surrounding area.
Series Cancelled After Security Developments
Following the incident and broader regional security concerns, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that officials had cancelled the Pakistan Shaheens vs England Lions series. The decision came after consultations between the ECB and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Both boards agreed to call off the series due to ongoing developments in the Middle East.
Originally, the tour included three T20 matches and five 50-over games in Abu Dhabi. However, rising tensions in the region prompted cricket officials to prioritize player welfare over competition. As a result, no further matches will take place.
Government Urged to Take Immediate Notice
In reaction to this scare, a Pakistani journalist requested that the Pakistani Prime Minister, Mr. Shehbaz Sharif, pay immediate attention to this incident. The journalist said that these young cricketers are playing for Pakistan on foreign soil and need all support during such a crisis.
At the same time, the PCB assured cricket fans and families that it is in touch with the cricket team management and that it has already put in place all the required measures for the safe return of the cricket team and its members to Pakistan.
