Fresh forensic findings have intensified scrutiny of the murder investigation into the death of Hina Javed in Rawalpindi. The victim’s family has renewed its demand for an independent judicial commission, citing concerns over the police investigation.
A summary of the DNA report reportedly shows matches involving three suspects: Hina’s husband, Faisal Asghar; her father-in-law, Fayyaz Asghar; and domestic worker Zeeshan Arshad. However, the findings alone do not establish who committed the murder.
DNA Report Details Multiple Matches
According to the report’s summary, Faisal’s DNA matched samples collected from four locations. His fingerprints were also reportedly found on Hina’s neck, clothing, a room door handle and a sheet allegedly used in the crime.
Investigators also found DNA beneath Hina’s fingernails that reportedly matched Zeeshan. The report further noted fingerprints attributed to the domestic worker on the victim’s body.
These findings have become central to the investigation. However, investigators must assess the evidence alongside other forensic results and the circumstances surrounding Hina’s death.
Family Questions Investigation Process
Hina’s brother, Fahad Javed, has expressed concerns about the direction of the investigation. He alleged that authorities were attempting to place the entire responsibility on Zeeshan despite the reported forensic findings.
The family says it has raised objections to the investigation from the beginning. It has urged the Punjab government to establish a judicial commission to ensure an impartial review.
Authorities have not publicly established guilt through a court verdict. The allegations against each suspect remain subject to the legal process.
Fresh Probe Reviews Forensic Evidence
The Punjab Crime Control Department launched a fresh investigation on the provincial government’s directives. The team reviewed DNA findings, post-mortem details, crime-scene evidence and the handling of the earlier inquiry.
Investigators have also examined possible procedural lapses and questioned officers involved in the initial investigation. The team is reviewing additional evidence, including telephone records and the alleged murder weapon. Hina, 45, was found dead at her residence in Rawalpindi’s Lal Kurti area on August 21. The investigation continues as her family seeks transparency and accountability.
