Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered the immediate removal of Jhang Deputy Commissioner Babar Sahib Din over the alleged misuse of an official government vehicle during a jeep rally.
The decision came on Sunday, October 25, 2026, after a video showing a Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) vehicle participating in the Jhang Thal Jeep Rally circulated on social media.
Maryam Nawaz described the incident as a serious violation of administrative discipline and government policy.
Maryam Nawaz Orders Immediate Action Against Jhang DC
The Punjab government’s Services and General Administration Department issued an official notification transferring Babar Sahib Din from his position.
The notification directed him to report to the department for further instructions.
The chief minister emphasized that government vehicles must only serve officially authorized purposes.
She rejected claims that the PERA vehicle had participated in the rally to provide security or emergency assistance.
Maryam clarified that police handle security arrangements, while Rescue 1122 manages emergency response operations.
Neither responsibility falls within PERA’s official mandate.
Punjab Government Tightens Rules on PERA Vehicles
The controversy emerged after the three-day Jhang Thal Jeep Rally concluded last week.
Meanwhile, PERA Director General Farrukh Atiq Khan had already issued instructions on October 21 regarding unauthorized vehicle use.
The directive warned district officials against deploying PERA vehicles for activities unrelated to enforcement operations.
It also instructed officials to withdraw vehicles assigned without proper authorization.
PERA was established to strengthen price regulation and prevent illegal encroachments across Punjab.
The authority has previously faced allegations of misconduct involving its officials.
The latest action highlights the provincial government’s efforts to strengthen accountability and prevent the misuse of public resources.
