BISHKEK: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Tuesday that sincere implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed in June remained the “only way forward” for resolving the conflict between the United States and Iran.
Dar made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry described the meeting as a “warm exchange,” saying the two foreign ministers discussed bilateral relations and developments across the region.
Dar Stresses Dialogue and Diplomacy Amid Regional Tensions
During the meeting, Dar emphasised that dialogue and diplomacy remained essential for promoting regional peace and stability.
Moreover, he stressed that both parties must sincerely implement the June 2026 Islamabad MoU to provide a sustainable path towards de-escalation.
Dar and Araghchi also reaffirmed the importance of continued engagement between Pakistan and Iran as tensions persist across the region.
The Islamabad MoU emerged in June as part of diplomatic efforts aimed at halting hostilities between Washington and Tehran and establishing a framework for reducing tensions.
Pakistan Continues Push for Negotiated Settlement
Meanwhile, Pakistan has maintained diplomatic contacts with both Iran and the United States and repeatedly called for negotiations instead of further military confrontation.
Islamabad has sought to position diplomacy as the preferred mechanism for addressing disagreements and preventing renewed escalation.
Consequently, Dar’s latest remarks underline Pakistan’s continued support for the June framework as the basis for resolving the conflict.
The meeting took place as regional leaders and senior officials gathered in the Kyrgyz capital for the SCO summit.
Furthermore, the summit has provided officials with an opportunity to discuss regional security, economic cooperation and diplomatic challenges at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions.
Dar’s meeting with Araghchi also highlighted Islamabad’s continuing engagement with Tehran and its broader effort to encourage implementation of the agreement by both sides.
