ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi have agreed that implementing the Islamabad memorandum of understanding remains the most effective route towards regional de-escalation.
According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dar and Grossi held a telephone conversation late Monday night and discussed the evolving regional situation and efforts to reduce tensions.
Moreover, Grossi offered technical assistance from the IAEA if required as diplomatic efforts continue.
Dar Reaffirms Pakistan’s Support for International Law
During the conversation, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and stressed the importance of respecting international law and fulfilling treaty obligations.
Furthermore, the foreign minister highlighted the UN system’s role in promoting international peace, stability and development.
Dar also conveyed his best wishes to Grossi for his campaign for the position of United Nations secretary-general.
The conversation came as Pakistan continues to emphasise diplomacy and implementation of the Islamabad MoU as a mechanism for reducing regional tensions.
Dar and Fidan Discuss Palestine and Bilateral Relations
Meanwhile, Dar held a separate telephone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, focusing on bilateral relations and regional developments.
The two foreign ministers reaffirmed their shared position on Palestine and expressed support for measures targeting trade and services connected with illegal Israeli settlements.
Additionally, they backed a joint statement issued by eight Arab and Islamic countries concerning the United Kingdom’s decision to ban imports originating from illegal Israeli settlements.
The two conversations highlighted Islamabad’s continuing diplomatic engagement on regional disputes, with Pakistan stressing dialogue, international law and multilateral institutions as central mechanisms for addressing tensions and promoting stability.
