ISLAMABAD: Pakistani drama Dar-e-Nijaat has sparked fresh debate over relationships, gender expectations and family pressure. Writer Nasir Adeeb and digital creator Mahnoor Rahim have both questioned key parts of its storyline.
Written by Umera Ahmed and directed by Saqib Khan, the drama features Sheheryar Munawar, Dur-e-Fishan Saleem and Nameer Nawaz Khan in prominent roles. The story has drawn attention for its intense relationships and complex characters.
Nasir Adeeb Questions Gender Double Standards
Nasir Adeeb recently shared his views on the drama and focused on society’s different standards for men and women.
According to Adeeb, society often forgives men for past mistakes more easily. However, women can face lasting judgment over their choices and reputation.
He argued that some men can have multiple relationships or make serious mistakes. Yet, society may still consider them suitable for marriage.
At the same time, many women face pressure to maintain a spotless reputation.
Adeeb connected these attitudes with the characters of Zamil and Zaryab. He said Zamil admits his mistakes and believes he has changed. Meanwhile, Zaryab continues to face judgment for her actions.
Therefore, he questioned why society gives men more opportunities to change and seek forgiveness.
Adeeb Warns Young Women
Adeeb also viewed the drama as a warning for young women. He encouraged them to protect themselves from situations that could lead to emotional suffering or difficult relationships.
His comments have added another layer to the ongoing discussion around Dar-e-Nijaat. However, Adeeb is not the only person questioning the drama’s message.
Mahnoor Rahim Questions Abu Bakar’s Sacrifice
Digital creator Mahnoor Rahim has also criticised parts of the storyline, particularly the treatment of sacrifice and family expectations.
She questioned the circumstances surrounding Zaryab’s marriage to Abu Bakar. In the story, Zaryab marries Abu Bakar to make a point to Zamil. Meanwhile, Abu Bakar agrees because his mother believes Zaryab’s family once helped them.
Mahnoor questioned why Abu Bakar should sacrifice his future because his mother feels indebted to another family.
She argued that families can repay a favour in many ways. In her view, sacrificing a son’s marriage should not become the expected solution.
Questions Over Zaryab, Zamil and Hamna
Mahnoor also questioned the storyline in which Zaryab tells Zamil to divorce Hamna and marry her.
She asked what fault Hamna has in the situation. Moreover, she criticised the idea of presenting such emotional decisions as acceptable or admirable.
Some social media users have raised similar concerns. They have questioned the drama’s portrayal of emotional pressure, family expectations and difficult relationship choices.
The debate also focuses on Abu Bakar’s obedience. Some viewers have questioned whether his willingness to sacrifice his future should receive praise simply because he follows his mother’s wishes.
Drama Sparks Wider Social Debate
Despite the criticism, Dar-e-Nijaat continues to attract strong audience interest. Its storyline has encouraged viewers to discuss forgiveness, relationships and social expectations.
Meanwhile, the comments from Adeeb and Mahnoor have shifted attention towards deeper questions about gender standards and family pressure.
As the drama progresses, viewers continue to debate whether its characters reflect real social attitudes or challenge them. The discussion has also highlighted how television dramas can influence conversations about relationships, sacrifice and personal choices.
