Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan on Tuesday. The discussion focused on the current regional situation and recent developments affecting both nations.
Strategic, Economic, and Defence Cooperation
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share a multifaceted relationship built on strategic military cooperation, mutual economic interests, and shared Islamic heritage. Riyadh has historically provided financial assistance and energy supplies, playing a crucial role in supporting Islamabadโs economy.
In September 2025, both countries signed a landmark mutual defence agreement. The pact stipulates that an attack on one nation will be considered an attack on both, reinforcing the depth of bilateral security ties.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
During the call, Dar expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Saudi relations. Prince Faisal reaffirmed Saudi Arabiaโs commitment to further strengthening and enhancing bilateral ties. Both leaders exchanged seasonโs greetings and best wishes for the New Year, which were warmly reciprocated.
Regional Security Context
Earlier, the Saudi-led coalition targeted foreign military support to southern separatists at Yemenโs Mukalla port. Pakistan has consistently expressed support for Saudi Arabiaโs diplomatic efforts to ensure peace and stability in Yemen, while also commending the UAEโs involvement in maintaining regional security.
Military and Defence Cooperation
In November, the military leadership of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia pledged to enhance bilateral defence cooperation. Both sides discussed evolving global and regional security environments and explored new avenues to strengthen strategic collaboration. The ISPR highlighted that both nations reaffirmed their commitment to deepening brotherly ties and enduring defence partnerships.
Commitment to Continued Engagement
The high-level exchange underlines Pakistan and Saudi Arabiaโs determination to maintain strong diplomatic, economic, and military ties. Both countries aim to address regional challenges collaboratively while promoting peace, stability, and mutual development.
The discussion reflects the importance of continuous dialogue between Islamabad and Riyadh, particularly amid complex regional dynamics and emerging security concerns.
