Daniel Craig’s The Golden Compass is gaining attention again as fans have limited time to watch the fantasy movie for free. The 2007 film is currently streaming on Tubi, but it will leave the platform on October 1.
The Golden Compass follows Lyra, a young girl living in a world unlike our own. In her world, humans have animal companions called daemons, who remain closely connected to their owners.
The Golden Compass Leaves Tubi Soon
When children begin disappearing, Lyra searches for her missing friend. However, her search soon leads her into a much larger and more dangerous adventure.
Craig plays Lord Asriel, Lyra’s uncle, in the fantasy film. Nicole Kidman, Sam Elliott, and Ian McKellen also appear in the movie alongside Craig.
The film adapts Philip Pullman’s novel Northern Lights, the first book in the His Dark Materials trilogy. It earned around $372 million worldwide against a reported production budget of $180 million.
Despite its commercial performance, The Golden Compass received mixed reactions from critics. The film currently holds a 41% score on Rotten Tomatoes, although it won an Academy Award for its visual effects.
Craig Returns to Fantasy With Narnia
The film’s return to streaming comes at an interesting time for Craig. The actor is preparing to enter another major fantasy franchise with Netflix’s upcoming Narnia movie.
Craig will appear in Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, where he will play the character Uncle Andrew. The upcoming adaptation will bring Craig back to the fantasy genre nearly two decades after The Golden Compass.
Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is scheduled to reach cinemas in February 2027. Netflix will then release the film on its streaming platform in April.
Meanwhile, fans interested in watching Craig’s earlier fantasy performance can catch The Golden Compass on Tubi before it leaves the service.
