LAHORE: The Lahore High Court issued stern criticism of police officers who recorded a controversial video of suspects during a raid on a dance party in Kasur. The court questioned the legality and ethics of the officers’ actions, expressing serious concern over their conduct during the operation.
Justice Ali Zia Bajwa, presiding over the proceedings, grilled the Station House Officer (SHO), asking, “Did you shine a flashlight in their faces?” The SHO responded by claiming the video was intended for police documentation.
However, the court questioned the legality of such recordings, with Justice Bajwa sharply remarking, “How did you have the audacity to do this?”
During the hearing, a lawyer representing the suspects alleged that the event had been organized by the personal staff officer (PSO) of the District Police Officer (DPO), stating, “We have a call regarding this matter.”
The SHO confirmed receiving a message from the DPO’s staff officer regarding a birthday celebration.
In light of the revelations, the Additional Inspector General has suspended the PSO along with two other officers involved in the incident.
The court has now directed the police to submit a formal social media policy at the next hearing, scheduled for April 25.
