Pakistan Customs has seized gold jewellery and luxury goods valued at approximately Rs. 58 million from a passenger arriving from the United States at the International Arrivals lounge of Jinnah International Airport, Karachi.
Officials confirmed that a total of 1,185 grams of gold jewellery was recovered, along with a commercial quantity of cosmetics, perfumes, and branded handbags. The items have been taken into custody, and a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under the Customs Act, 1969.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) spokesperson reiterated the authorityโs strong commitment to combating smuggling and enforcing customs regulations rigorously across all entry points in the country. โThis seizure reflects our continuous efforts to prevent illegal imports and protect national revenue,โ the spokesperson said.
Authorities highlighted that vigilance at airports, seaports, and land borders has been intensified as part of ongoing operations aimed at curbing illicit trade. Customs officials conduct thorough inspections, screening passengers and cargo for unreported or smuggled items.
The FBR emphasized that smuggling of gold and luxury goods not only undermines revenue collection but also poses risks to the formal economy. โWe will continue taking strict measures against individuals attempting to bring restricted items into the country without proper declaration,โ the spokesperson added.
The recent seizure is among several enforcement actions taken at Karachi Airport over the past year, aimed at deterring illegal importation of high-value goods. Customs authorities assured that coordinated efforts with airport security and intelligence agencies will continue to ensure strict compliance with customs laws.
Passengers and the public have been reminded to declare all dutiable goods and comply with customs regulations to avoid legal consequences. The FBR confirmed that the investigation into the seized items and involved parties is ongoing, with further action to follow in accordance with the law.
This operation underscores Pakistan Customsโ ongoing vigilance and commitment to safeguarding national revenue while enforcing regulations against smuggling and illegal trade.
