Authorities say Tariq Aziz and Zulqarnain faced multiple cases, while government had announced Rs500,000 rewards for their arrests
LAHORE: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested two suspected militants on Monday who had remained wanted in connection with serious criminal cases in Lahore, according to local media reports.
Officials identified one of the arrested suspects as Tariq Aziz, who had allegedly remained wanted by law enforcement agencies since 2014. Authorities linked him to several cases, including the killing of an intelligence agency officer.
Moreover, officials said Aziz’s name appeared in the “Red Book”, which contains details of individuals wanted by counter-terrorism authorities in connection with terrorism-related cases.
The CTD reportedly tracked and arrested Aziz during its latest operation. However, authorities did not immediately disclose further details about the location or circumstances surrounding his arrest.
Second Wanted Suspect Taken Into Custody
Subsequently, the CTD arrested another suspect identified as Zulqarnain. Officials said his name also appeared in the Red Book and that law enforcement agencies had been searching for him in connection with several cases.
According to officials, multiple criminal cases had been registered against Zulqarnain in Lahore.
The authorities are expected to investigate both suspects further to determine their alleged involvement in previous incidents and establish whether they maintained links with other wanted individuals or networks.
Government Had Announced Cash Rewards
Meanwhile, the federal government had previously announced head money for information leading to the arrests of the two suspects.
Authorities had offered a cash reward of Rs500,000 for each wanted man, reflecting the seriousness with which law enforcement agencies viewed the cases against them.
The latest arrests represent a significant development for investigators pursuing long-running cases in Lahore.
Furthermore, the CTD is expected to examine the suspects’ movements, contacts and alleged activities during the period in which they remained wanted.
Officials have not yet released details about subsequent legal proceedings or whether investigators expect additional arrests following the operation.
