MULTAN: Police have arrested a contractor accused of killing his 15-year-old worker by striking him with a car in a residential area of Multan, following a dispute that allegedly occurred when the teenager attempted to leave work.
The victim, identified as Waseem Abbas, belonged to Muzaffargarh district and worked as an electrician under contractor Tauqeer Nazir. Police said the incident occurred on Monday within the jurisdiction of the DHA police station.
According to initial investigations, Waseem was unhappy with the contractor and attempted to leave the workplace. The suspect chased the teenager on foot but failed to catch him. He subsequently pursued the boy in a car, accompanied by another man identified as Amjad Ali.
Closed-circuit television footage showed the vehicle chasing the teenager before striking him. The impact threw the boy against the door of a nearby house, causing fatal injuries. He died at the scene.
Police and rescue personnel reached the location and shifted the body to a morgue for a postmortem examination.
Following the incident, DHA police registered a murder case on behalf of the state and arrested Tauqeer Nazir. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.
A police spokesperson said the suspect would be presented before a court and that the required legal proceedings would follow.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of young workers and the treatment of underage labourers. Further investigation will determine the circumstances leading to the fatal incident and establish responsibility in accordance with the law.
