Police in Forward Kahuta have arrested a young woman from Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) for entering Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) without a visa.
The woman, identified as Fatima, reportedly crossed the Line of Control (LoC) on November 24 to reach AJK with the intent of marrying a man of her choice. Acting on reports of her presence in the Kearney Village area, police raided a house, took her into custody, and filed a First Information Report (FIR).
According to the authorities, Fatima was brought to the village by Imran, a local man, after crossing the LoC. She revealed during questioning that Imran works abroad with her brother and that they had been in contact over the phone. Imran was also arrested for allegedly persuading her to cross the border and pressuring her into marriage against her family’s wishes.
The boy’s family has since approached the magistrate, seeking the release of the couple.
The case mirrors a similar incident last year when an Indian woman named Anju crossed the border into Pakistan for love. Anju married her Pakistani friend Nasrullah in Upper Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, after converting from Hinduism to Islam. Following her conversion, she adopted the name Fatima. The couple formalized their union in a local court and recorded statements affirming their decision was made willingly.
Anju had expressed happiness with her decision to come to Pakistan and start a new life with her husband.
