Polygraph Test
A Lahore anti-terrorism court (ATC) has granted police permission to interrogate Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in connection with 12 criminal cases related to the violent events that occurred on May 9, 2023.
The cases involve the unrest and violent protests that followed the arrest of the former prime minister, which caused widespread chaos across the country.
Judge Manzar Ali Gul delivered the reserved verdict on Wednesday, allowing the police to conduct a thorough investigation of the PTI leader while he remains in jail.
The court has also approved the administration of a polygraph test, commonly known as a lie detector test, along with a photogrammetric test, as part of the investigation process.
These measures are aimed at verifying Imran Khan’s statements and determining his involvement in the incidents that led to the violence on May 9. The prosecution had filed a petition requesting these tests, which was accepted by the court.
Furthermore, the court has directed the police to submit a detailed investigation report by May 26, ensuring that progress is made in these cases in a timely manner. The investigation and its outcome could play a significant role in shaping the future legal proceedings against Imran Khan.
On a separate note, Imran Khan recently had a visit from his three sisters and members of his legal team at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where he has been incarcerated since his arrest.
Aleema Khan, Uzma Khanum, and Noreen Khanum, along with Barrister Gohar, Salman Safdar, and Zaheer Abbas Chaudhry, met with the PTI leader on Tuesday. During the visit, the family members and legal team discussed various matters related to his legal defense. Additionally, Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan’s wife, was also visited by her sister-in-law, Mehrun Nisa Ahmed.
As the legal and investigative processes continue, the political and public impact of these developments remains high, with many observing closely how the situation unfolds for the PTI leader.
