Nothing has unveiled the Ear (3a), a new pair of wireless earbuds positioned between the budget-friendly Ear (a) and the premium Ear (3). The latest model introduces several new features, including built-in audio recording, active noise cancellation, LDAC support and extended battery life, while carrying a price tag of $99.
The earbuds are now available through Nothing’s official website and are designed for users seeking advanced features without paying flagship prices.
Fresh Design With More Color Choices
The Nothing Ear (3a) retains the company’s signature transparent design but introduces a softer and more rounded appearance.
Customers can choose from pink, yellow, black and white color options. In addition, Nothing has included an extra-small ear tip to improve comfort and provide a better fit for a wider range of users.
These design updates aim to make the earbuds more comfortable for extended daily use.
Built-In Audio Recording Takes Center Stage
One of the biggest additions to the Ear (3a) is Audio Snapshot, a feature that allows users to record short audio clips directly from the earbuds.
The earbuds include 32MB of built-in flash storage, enabling users to save important moments without immediately reaching for their phones. By pinching both earbuds simultaneously, users can capture audio they are listening to, including sections of online lectures, voice messages or other conversations.
The feature also records audio from moments immediately before and after the gesture, helping users avoid missing important information.
After recording, saved clips automatically transfer to the Nothing X application. Users can replay, edit, share and transcribe recordings within the app. It can also convert selected text into shareable quote cards while making previous recordings easier to organize and locate.
Call and Meeting Recording
The Ear (3a) also supports recording phone calls and meetings for up to two hours.
Users simply pinch both earbuds to begin recording instead of opening their smartphones. Once the conversation ends or recording is manually stopped, the file transfers automatically to the Nothing X app.
According to Nothing, other participants will receive a privacy notification whenever call or meeting recording is active.
Improved Audio and Noise Cancellation
Nothing has equipped the Ear (3a) with 12mm dynamic drivers, which the company says deliver stronger bass and more detailed sound than the previous generation.
The earbuds also support LDAC wireless audio, spatial audio and an eight-band equalizer, all accessible through the Nothing X application.
Meanwhile, active noise cancellation reduces external noise by up to 45dB. The company says improvements to both the ANC algorithm and acoustic mesh increase effectiveness across a broader range of frequencies.
Nothing also claims overall noise-cancellation performance has improved by 17.1% compared with its earlier earbuds.
Battery Life and Price
The Ear (3a) delivers up to 10 hours of playback on a single charge when active noise cancellation is disabled.
Combined with the charging case, total battery life reaches 42 hours. However, enabling ANC reduces total listening time to approximately 25 hours.
Priced at $99, the Nothing Ear (3a) combines advanced recording capabilities, hybrid noise cancellation, premium audio features and long battery life in a package aimed at everyday users seeking greater functionality from their wireless earbuds.
