Pakistan’s National Cyber Emergency Response Team (NCERT) has issued a serious warning about artificial intelligence-powered cyberattacks that could disrupt banks, financial services and essential infrastructure across the country.
In an advisory dated November 5, 2026, the agency warned that cybercriminals are increasingly using AI tools, automated bots and advanced software to launch faster and more sophisticated attacks. These threats could affect digital banking, electricity networks, water supplies and industrial facilities.

The advisory highlighted that financial institutions face potential attacks targeting payment gateways, customer accounts and core banking systems. Hackers could use automated attempts to steal login credentials, interrupt online banking services or manipulate account information displayed to customers.
NCERT also identified serious vulnerabilities in Pakistan’s critical infrastructure. Power plants, oil and gas facilities, water utilities, transportation networks and manufacturing industries could face disruptions through compromised industrial control systems or insecure remote connections.
The agency warned that unauthorized changes to operational settings, including pressure, temperature and electricity distribution parameters, could indicate malicious activity. Such interference could potentially affect essential public services.
Cybersecurity experts were urged to monitor suspicious login attempts, unusual financial transactions and unauthorized system access.
NCERT recommended stronger security measures, including multi-factor authentication, continuous monitoring, regular software updates and improved protection of third-party systems.
Financial institutions were also advised to verify that customer account information matches official banking records.
Meanwhile, utility providers were urged to restrict unnecessary internet access to sensitive operational equipment and maintain emergency backup procedures.
The warning highlights growing cybersecurity risks as Pakistan expands digital banking and connected infrastructure.
