LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz approved 1220 flats for workers. She also enhanced minimum wages for industrial workers to Rs 40,000 per month. CM Punjab presided over the 28th meeting of the provincial cabinet, during which approval was granted for an extensive 130-point agenda aimed at strengthening social welfare and labor rights in the province.
Among the key decisions, the cabinet approved the allocation of 1,220 residential flats for industrial workers in Labor Complexes in Sundar, Kasur, and Taxila. The allotment will be done through a transparent balloting process.
Rejecting a proposal to recover costs from workers, Maryam Nawaz emphasized that laborers must not bear the financial burden for housing and directed authorities to immediately begin construction on an additional 3,000 flats for industrial workers.
In a significant move for labor rights, the cabinet also approved a minimum monthly salary of Rs40,000 for skilled, semi-skilled, and other workers across 102 different job categories.
Recognizing the critical role of Rescue 1122 during the recent flood emergencies, the Chief Minister announced a cash reward of Rs50,000 for each official who participated in flood relief operations. She praised their “courage, dedication, and swift action” during the crisis.
These decisions reflect the provincial government’s continued focus on social protection, workers’ welfare, and emergency preparedness under Maryam Nawaz’s leadership.
