During a regular press briefing, Chinese Defense Spokesperson Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang announced that a contingent from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) would participate in the Pakistan Day parade, following an invitation extended by the Pakistani military. Scheduled for mid-to-late March, this participation underscores the enduring friendship between China and Pakistan.
Pakistan Day holds historical significance, marking the adoption of the Lahore Resolution on March 23, 1940. This resolution, spearheaded by the All-India Muslim League, articulated the demand for a separate nation to safeguard the interests of Muslims within the British Indian Empire.
This forthcoming participation isn’t unprecedented. In 2017, the PLA’s Honor Guards took part in the parade, responding to an invitation from the then Chief of Army Staff, Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa. Their presence symbolizes the deepening ties and mutual respect between the armed forces of China and Pakistan.
The PLA’s Honor Guards boast a rich legacy dating back to 1952. Renowned for their precision and discipline, they play a pivotal role in China’s national events and ceremonial functions, including hosting foreign dignitaries. Their participation extends beyond China’s borders, having showcased their skills at parades in countries like Mexico, Italy, and Venezuela.
By joining Pakistan in commemorating this historic occasion, the PLA’s contingent reaffirms China’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Pakistan. Such exchanges not only foster military cooperation but also serve as a testament to the enduring bonds between nations that transcend borders and generations.
