Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held high-level meetings with Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership in Islamabad this week, reaffirming both nations’ commitment to their “all-weather” strategic partnership and pledging deeper cooperation across multiple sectors.
Meeting with Field Marshal Asim Munir
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Wang Yi met with Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir. Discussions centered on regional security, counter-terrorism, and matters of mutual concern. This meeting is being termed very important to promote bilateral ties between the two time-tested friends _ Pakistan and China.
Both sides pledged to strengthen coordination at regional and international forums and reiterated their resolve to advance peace and stability in South Asia. Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s steadfast support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, security, and development goals, while General Munir expressed gratitude for Beijing’s consistent backing through challenging times.
Talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif
Later, Wang Yi called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who underlined Pakistan’s determination to expand bilateral cooperation with China in trade, investment, ICT, agriculture, industrialization, mining, and other critical sectors.
The prime minister emphasized the strategic importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), describing it as a cornerstone of Pakistan’s socio-economic development and a vital project for regional connectivity. He expressed satisfaction with the steady progress of CPEC Phase-II, which focuses on industrialization, technology transfer, and energy sustainability.
PM Shehbaz also praised China’s consistent support in safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He reiterated Islamabad’s unwavering support for Beijing on its core issues, including matters related to regional security and development priorities.
A Shared Vision for the Future
Both meetings concluded with a reaffirmation of the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership, envisioned by the leadership and cherished by the peoples of both countries. The discussions highlighted a shared commitment to fostering peace, stability, and prosperity, not just for Pakistan and China but for the broader region.
