China has urged Iran and the United States to exercise restraint and return to the Islamabad memorandum.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks during talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Beijing on Wednesday.
Wang also called for substantive consultations on issues of mutual concern.
China Pushes for Hormuz Reopening
Wang urged all parties to take effective steps to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible.
He said China does not want the regional conflict to spread further into Yemen and the Red Sea.
The Strait of Hormuz is a major global energy route. Prolonged disruption could affect oil supplies and international markets.
Wang said Beijing remains committed to its consistent policy toward Iran.
He added that China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Tehran.
Beijing Offers Support for Iran
During the meeting, Wang said China was willing to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with Iran.
He also said Beijing would safeguard Iran’s legitimate rights and interests.
Wang called on both Iran and the United States to remain rational and restrained.
The latest talks highlight China’s continued diplomatic engagement with Tehran amid the ongoing regional conflict.
Wang and Araghchi had also met in Beijing in May. They were seen speaking briefly during the BRICS summit in New Delhi over the weekend.
China and Iran Maintain Strong Economic Ties
China and Iran describe their relationship as a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Economic ties remain an important part of the relationship.
China is among the largest buyers of Iranian oil. Discounted energy exports have helped sustain bilateral economic links despite international sanctions and regional tensions.
Official figures show bilateral trade exceeded $41 billion last year.
The economic relationship has continued despite the escalation of military tensions in the Middle East.
Conflict Raises Regional Concerns
The United States and Israel launched large-scale attacks against targets in Iran on February 28, according to the report.
Iran responded with missile and drone attacks against Israel and US military positions across the region.
China has repeatedly called for diplomatic engagement and a reduction in regional tensions.
Wang also expressed concern about the conflict spreading toward Yemen and the Red Sea.
Recent fighting involving Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen has added to regional instability.
The United Nations has reported that more than 100,000 people have been displaced inside Yemen, while thousands have fled the country.
Xi-Trump Meeting Could Address Iran Crisis
The latest China-Iran talks come ahead of an expected meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump.
The Iran conflict is expected to be among the issues watched during their discussions.
Other major issues include trade, technology and competition over artificial intelligence.
Beijing has also rejected US media reports that Chinese entities provided Tehran with satellite images of a US military base in Jordan.
The United States has previously sanctioned China-based satellite companies over alleged support for Iran’s military operations.
