A major breach in the Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) has flooded several areas near Paharpur in Dera Ismail Khan.
The breach has left hundreds of residents and large numbers of livestock stranded as rescue and evacuation operations continue.
150-Foot Breach Triggers Flooding
According to officials, the canal developed a breach measuring between 100 and 150 feet.
The canal was carrying around 3,800 cusecs of water when the breach occurred.
Floodwater quickly spread across nearby areas, causing significant damage and disrupting local life.
Residents of Kachi Paharpur are among those affected by the flooding.
Residents and Livestock Being Evacuated
Authorities have launched an emergency operation to move affected residents to safer locations.
Two relief camps have been established for people being evacuated from the affected areas.
Efforts are also underway to rescue stranded livestock. Hundreds of people and thousands of animals are reportedly affected by the flooding.
Local residents are also carrying out relief activities on a self-help basis.
WAPDA Deploys Machinery for Emergency Response
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi contacted senior WAPDA officials after receiving reports of the canal breach.
He directed WAPDA and other relevant departments to immediately begin relief and rescue operations.
The governor also ordered the urgent deployment of heavy machinery to the site. The machinery is being used to control the water flow and limit further damage.
WAPDA officials assured the governor that machinery was being dispatched and additional protective measures were being taken.
District officials, including the Deputy Commissioner and representatives of various departments, have reached Paharpur to supervise the emergency response.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as evacuation and flood-control efforts remain underway.
