KARACHI: Uzbekistan’s Centrum Air has launched regular direct flights between Tashkent and Karachi, expanding air links between Pakistan and Uzbekistan and opening new opportunities for tourism, trade and business cooperation.
The inaugural flight from Tashkent arrived at Karachi Airport at 4:20am on Thursday, September 3, carrying passengers aboard an Airbus A320. Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Alisher Tukhtaev received the first flight.
Airport authorities welcomed the aircraft with a traditional water-cannon salute. Meanwhile, representatives from the Sindh government, local authorities, diplomatic community, Sindh Tourism Development Corporation, airlines, tour operators and media attended a ceremony marking the launch.
New Route Expected to Boost Tourism and Business
Sindh government representatives said stronger air connectivity could increase tourist arrivals and encourage greater interaction between Pakistani and Uzbek business communities.
Moreover, the direct service will make travel easier for businessmen, investors, tourists, students and families travelling between the two countries.
Pakistani passengers will also gain easier access to Uzbekistan and potentially wider Central Asian destinations through improved regional connectivity.
Pakistan-Uzbekistan Direct Flights Rise to Eight Weekly
With the introduction of the Tashkent-Karachi route, the number of direct flights operating between Pakistan and Uzbekistan has increased to eight per week.
The expansion reflects growing efforts by both countries to strengthen economic cooperation, tourism and people-to-people contacts.
Furthermore, Centrum Air had already expanded its presence in Pakistan earlier this year by launching direct flights between Lahore and Tashkent in April 2026.
That route operates twice a week.
Consequently, the addition of Karachi to Centrum Air’s network gives travellers another direct connection between Pakistan and Uzbekistan while strengthening aviation links between South Asia and Central Asia.
