The Capital Development Authority will establish four new rescue and fire stations across Islamabad. Additionally, China will provide 21 new fire tenders to strengthen emergency response services.
The new Rescue 1122 centers will be built in G-11, I-14, I-9, and Model Town Humak. Officials said construction tenders have already been floated, while bids will open next week.
Each center will include ambulances to improve emergency response across the capital. The project was first announced in 2008 but remained stalled for years.
China To Supply Modern Firefighting Equipment
Director General Capital Emergency Services Dr Abdur Rahman said the new stations would reduce emergency response times. He added that China will also gift 21 fire tenders, including an 88-metre snorkel vehicle.
The equipment is expected to arrive at Karachi Port during the second week of August. Currently, the CDA operates 22 fire tenders and four snorkels with a maximum reach of 68 metres.
Officials said the new snorkel will improve firefighting operations in high-rise buildings. Consequently, emergency teams will better handle complex rescue situations.
Staff Shortages And Delayed Projects Remain Challenges
A CDA firefighter said more than 100 firefighter positions remain vacant. He urged authorities to fill the posts without further delay.
The CDA board previously ordered staff recruitment, emergency training, and equipment upgrades. However, officials said several approved projects remain incomplete.
The authority also approved an emergency motorbike service using around 50 motorcycles. However, the plan stalled after officials decided to import larger 200cc motorcycles instead of 125cc models.
