The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has issued a fire safety notice to the Islamabad Marriott Hotel after an inspection identified shortcomings in its fire and life-safety arrangements.
The notice was issued on September 1 under the Islamabad Fire Prevention and Life Safety Regulations 2010. Authorities directed the hotel to address the identified deficiencies and obtain a compliance certificate after completing the required corrective measures.
Hotel Warned Of Enforcement Action
According to the notice, the inspection found deficiencies in the hotel’s fire safety systems and arrangements. The CDA said the hotel had violated Sections 3 and 4 of the regulations, which establish requirements for fire protection and safety measures.
The hotel has been given directions to correct the issues. Authorities warned that failure to address the deficiencies could result in enforcement action, including sealing of the building.
The action comes amid a broader safety crackdown across Islamabad following a devastating fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on August 26. The blaze in a nursery killed 14 newborn babies, prompting authorities to intensify inspections of buildings across the capital.
Islamabad Faces Wider Safety Concerns
Following the tragedy, authorities sealed several high-rise buildings and imposed fines on hospitals that failed to meet fire and life-safety requirements.
Earlier this year, the CDA completed a fire-safety and hazard-control survey covering around 6,500 public and private buildings, including 300 government properties. The survey found that most buildings lacked approved fire safety plans and required completion or fire safety certificates.
Authorities subsequently directed building owners and occupants to obtain the necessary certifications or face fines and legal action.
The latest notice highlights continuing concerns over fire preparedness and building safety in Islamabad, where officials have acknowledged widespread non-compliance with safety requirements.
