Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz secured a place in the Vienna Open 2026 final after defeating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in a thrilling semifinal on Saturday, October 31.
The seven-time Grand Slam champion claimed a 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) victory in 96 minutes, reaching his first Vienna Open final.
The result also marked the 23-year-old’s 37th career ATP Tour final and fifth final of the season.
Alcaraz Overcomes Medvedev in Intense Semifinal
Alcaraz made an aggressive start, breaking Medvedev’s serve in the fourth game of the opening set.
However, the Russian responded immediately to level the contest.
A costly double fault from Medvedev later handed Alcaraz a crucial opportunity, allowing him to secure the first set 6-4.
Spanish Star Dominates Decisive Tiebreak
The second set delivered another competitive battle.
Alcaraz moved ahead 4-2 before Medvedev fought back with an immediate break.
Neither player could establish a decisive advantage, forcing a tiebreak.
Alcaraz then displayed exceptional control, winning five consecutive points to seal victory.
The win also ended Medvedev’s seven-match winning streak.
Alcaraz Extends ATP 500 Winning Streak
The Spaniard recorded his 25th consecutive ATP 500 victory.
His latest success also avenged his defeat against Medvedev in the Indian Wells semifinals earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Medvedev secured qualification for November’s season-ending ATP Finals despite his defeat.
Who Will Face Alcaraz in Vienna Open Final?
Alcaraz will face either Alexander Zverev or Australia’s Alex de Minaur in Sunday’s championship match.
Zverev is set to replace injured Jannik Sinner at the top of the world rankings on Monday.
Alcaraz now enters the final seeking another major title to strengthen his successful 2026 campaign.
