Pakistan’s passenger car sales declined sharply in September 2026, reflecting renewed pressure on the country’s automobile market. Sales fell 9.8% year-on-year to 10,939 units, compared with 12,126 units during September last year, according to data released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA).
The decline was steeper on a monthly basis. Passenger car sales dropped 20.3% from 13,717 units in August, marking a second consecutive monthly fall.
Passenger Car Sales Show Mixed Performance
Despite the recent slowdown, cumulative passenger car sales reached 41,872 units during the first three months of fiscal year 2026-27. This represents a 42.8% increase compared with 29,318 units in the same period last year.
However, performance varied considerably across engine categories. Sales of vehicles with engines of 1,300cc and above increased 11.6% year-on-year to 6,947 units.
In contrast, sales of cars below 1,000cc fell 29.9% to 3,812 units. The 1,000cc category recorded an even sharper decline of 68.1%, with only 138 units sold.
Toyota Records Growth as Suzuki Alto Sales Fall
Toyota’s Corolla, Yaris and Corolla Cross lineup recorded sales of 3,563 units in September, up 34.2% from a year earlier.
Honda’s Civic and City models sold 2,021 units, slightly higher than the 1,977 units recorded in September 2025. However, sales fell from 2,553 units in August.
Suzuki Alto remained the leading model in the below-1,000cc category, selling 3,354 units. Nevertheless, sales declined from 4,718 units in September last year and 5,339 units in August.
Suzuki Swift sales also fell to 852 units, while Cultus sales dropped to 138 units.
SUV and Pickup Sales Decline Annually
Sales of jeeps, pickups and SUVs decreased 17.5% year-on-year to 4,165 units. However, the segment recorded a strong monthly recovery from 1,841 units in August.
Haval and Tank models sold by Sazgar led the segment with 2,474 units, followed by Toyota Fortuner and IMV models with 579 units.
Meanwhile, passenger car production increased 24.7% year-on-year to 17,040 units in September. Production during the first quarter reached 47,614 units, up 31.8% from the same period last year.
Two-Wheeler and Tractor Sales Rise
Other vehicle categories recorded stronger results. Two- and three-wheeler sales climbed 27.4% year-on-year to 202,502 units. Tractor sales increased 129.7% to 1,815 units, while truck and bus sales rose 13.2% to 933 units.
The latest figures show that Pakistan’s automobile market continues to deliver mixed results, with passenger car sales weakening in September despite substantial growth over the first three months of the fiscal year.
