Juno Award-winning rock and blues singer Sass Jordan has died at 65, her family confirmed. The longtime Canadian Idol judge died peacefully on October 2, surrounded by family members who loved her.
Jordan’s representatives previously confirmed that she had canceled her remaining 2026 performances because of a serious medical condition. However, her family and publicist have not disclosed the specific cause of death.
Sass Jordan Built A Successful Music Career
Born Sarah Jordan in Birmingham, England, on December 23, 1960, Jordan moved to Montreal with her family as a child. She began performing in local clubs during her teenage years before launching her recording career in 1986.
Jordan released her debut solo album, Tell Somebody, in 1988 and won the Juno Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist the following year. She later released Racine in 1992, which became her defining album and helped establish her as a major Canadian rock performer.
Jordan also toured with major acts including Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC and Van Halen. Additionally, her music career included collaborations and appearances that expanded her reputation beyond Canada.
Canadian Idol Judge Remembered By Fans
In 2003, Jordan joined Canadian Idol as a judge and remained on the panel throughout the show’s six-season run. She mentored aspiring singers while becoming a familiar television personality across Canada.
Her family described her as an “inimitable force of nature” and an “irreplaceable being of light and joy.” Jordan is survived by her husband Derek Sharp, daughter Stella Jordan-Sharp, stepdaughter Brianne Sharp and brother Daniel Jordan.
