KARACHI: Police are investigating the deaths of an elderly couple who recently returned from Canada and were found dead inside their home in North Karachi on Thursday.
Authorities identified the deceased as 70-year-old Muhammad Yameen and his 65-year-old wife, Nafis Akhtar. Police discovered their bodies at house R-93 in Sector 11-C, opposite B Amma Park, within the jurisdiction of Sir Syed police station.
According to police officials, investigators found no sharp-edged weapon injuries on either body, contradicting earlier reports that the couple had their throats slit. However, blood had flowed from their noses and ears and dried on the floor.
Police have not established the cause of death. Investigators are examining the possibility of poisoning, while officials await post-mortem reports to determine what happened.
The incident came to light when a close relative visited the couple but received no response from inside the house. The relative subsequently alerted the police.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Fareed Khan said the bodies appeared to be more than 18 hours old. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area and questioning people who may have information about the incident.
Police also learned that workers had recently visited the house for repair work. The couple had reportedly planned to sell their property and return to Canada to join their three children.
Authorities found mobile phones inside the house but reported no apparent evidence of robbery. Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has sought a detailed report from the district police chief as the investigation continues.
